What are some good scary novels without the romance?
I want something creepy and scary. I see book covers all the time that look awesome but there is no doubt they have romance in it, and I just don’t like romance at all.No sex or anything please. Minor kissing is okay, but not big passionate smooches. Also I don’t want a kiddy novel either. I’m way past that stage, maturity wise. Not gory either…the kind that fools with your mind. Thanks!
Duma Key by Stephen King is a pretty creepy book, and virtually romance-free.
Also try reading the Mammoth Book of Horror, which is an anthology published once a year. I think he’s on 20 or 21 now. It’s a book of short horror stories, and although there are some bad ones, you can find some good gems in there. The fact that they’re short stories helps them fall short on romance because there’s just not the room. It’s a good way to discover writers you’ve never read before. There are virtually unknown authors as well as old standards like Brian Lumley (don’t care for him), Stephen King and others.
